Learning the Turkish Plural displayed below is vital to the language. Turkish Plurals are grammatical numbers, typically referring to more than one of the referent in the real world. In the English language, singular and plural are the only grammatical numbers.
While in English, the plural is formed by adding (s) to the singular, in Turkish, to form the plural of nouns and adjectives we add (-lar) or (-ler) to words. Here are some examples:
kitap (a book ) becomes: kitap-lar (books)
kalem (a pen or a pencil) becomes: kalem-ler (pens or pencils)
köprü (a bridge) becomes: köprü-ler (bridges)
In Turkish the last vowel of the word determines whether the suffix will be -ler or –lar. The rule is simple: If the last vowel is one of “a, ı, o, u” the suffix should be –lar; if the vowel is one of “e, i, ö, ü” the suffix should be –ler
