Slovak Pronouns

Learning the Slovak Pronouns displayed below is vital to the language. Slovak pronouns include personal pronouns (refer to the persons speaking, the persons spoken to, or the persons or things spoken about), indefinite pronouns, relative pronouns (connect parts of sentences) and reciprocal or reflexive pronouns (in which the object of a verb is being acted on by verb's subject).

Grammar Tips:

In English personal pronouns are (I, you, he, she, it, we, you, they), and (me, you, him, her, it, us, you, them), In Slovak, the personal pronouns are:

Ja (I), ty (you), on (he), ona (she), ono…(it)

My (we), Vy (they masc.), Oni (they musc.) Ony…(they fem.)

Examples: Ja  hovorím (I speak), ty hovoríš (you speak), on hovorí (he speaks), ona hovorí (she speaks), Ono hovorí (it [child] speaks). My hovoríme (we speak), Vy hovoríte (you speak), Oni hovoria (they speak), Ony hovoria (they fem.speak).

 

Indirect Object Pronouns:

Indirect object pronouns are words that replace the indirect object, which is usually a person.

Mne, mňa [long version], mi, ma [short version](me), tebe, teba [long version] ti, ťa [short version ](you),  jeho, jemu [long version], ho mu, [short version] (him), jej, ju her, nám, nás (us),  vám vás (you), im, ich (them):

Examples: Daj mi knihu (give me the book). Ľúbim ťa  (I love you).

 

Possessive Pronouns:

Môj (mine masc.sing.), moja (mine fem.sing.), moje (mine neutral sing.) Naši(ours, plural masc.), naše (ours, plural fem.), vaši / vaše (yours), jeho / jej (his, hers), naši / naše (ours), vaši / vaše (yours), ich (theirs).
