Learning the Portuguese Negation displayed below is vital to the language. Portuguese negation is the process that turns an affirmative statement (I am happy) into its opposite denial (I am not happy).
In Portuguese, negation can be made simply by placing "No" before the main verb. But sometimes a double negative is required. "No" is the most common negative.
Não posso fazê-lo (I can't do this).
Não tenho nada que fazer (they don't have anything to do – Double Negative).
Não gosto (I don't like it)
