Learning the Polish Plural is very important because its structure is used in every day conversation. The more you master it the more you get closer to mastering the Polish language. But first we need to know what the role of Plural is in the structure of the grammar in Polish.
Polish Plurals are grammatical numbers, typically referring to more than one of the referent in the real world. In the English language, singular and plural are the only grammatical numbers.
While in English, the plural is formed by adding (s) to the singular. In Polish, to form the plural of nouns we add (- i or -y) to words. Here are some examples:
Dom (a house) becomes: Domy (some houses)
Ptak (a bird) becomes: Ptaki (some birds)
To jest mój czerwony samochód (this is my red car) becomes: To są moje czerwone samochody (these are my red cars)
Also the plural form can be formed by adding (-a or -e) at the word’s end. For example:
Przyjaciel (a friend) becomes: Przyjaciele (some friends)
Morze (a sea) becomes: Morza (some seas)
