Learning the Marathi Feminine is very important because its structure is used in every day conversation. The more you master it the more you get closer to mastering the Marathi language. But first we need to know what the role of Feminine is in the structure of the grammar in Marathi.
Marathi feminine refers to female qualities attributed specifically to women and girls or things considered feminine. The complement to feminine is masculine.
To form a feminine word from the masculine in Marathi, you simply add (-i) or (-a) for nouns and (-e) for verbs. Here are some examples:
Mulaga (son) becomes Mulagi (daughter), shikshak (teacher masc.) becomes shikshika(teacher fem.), me kelato (I play – masc) becomes me khelate(I play – fem)
Note that some words cannot change into feminine; instead a whole new word should be used, example: Purush (man), Stri (woman).
