Learning the Latvian Adverbs displayed below is vital to the language. Latvian adverbs are part of speech. Generally they're words that modify any part of language other than a noun. Adverbs can modify verbs, adjectives (including numbers), clauses, sentences and other adverbs.
While in English adverbs are usually formed by adding (-ly) to adjectives, in Latvian many adverbs are formed from adjectives, simply by removing the last consonant before adding the vowel (–i) to the masculine form of the adjective. Examples:
Lēns (slow) becomes lēni (slowly)
Perfekts (perfect) becomes perfekti (perfectly)
However that’s not always the case. Some words are adverbs by nature. For example:
Šobrīd (now), patiešām (really) un drīz (soon) are all Latvian adverbs.
Here are some examples:
English Adverbs | Latvian Adverbs |
---|---|

I read a book sometimes | Dažreiz lasu grāmatu |
I will never smoke | Nekad nesmēķēšu |
