Learning the Estonian Numbers is very important because its structure is used in every day conversation. The more you master it the more you get closer to mastering the Estonian language. But first we need to know what the role of Numbers is in the structure of the grammar in Estonian.
Estonian cardinal number convey the "how many" they're also known as "counting numbers," because they show quantity.
In Estonian numbers from 1 to 10 are unique and therefore need to be memorized individually. Numbers 11-19 are formed by using the following pattern: for example 11 can be formed by using 1 + teist while connecting them. 11 = üksteist, 22 = kaksteist etc.
Numbers 20, 30, 40, etc are formed by using the following pattern: for example 20 can be formed by using 2 + kümmend while connecting them. 20 = kakskümmend, 30 = kolmkümmend etc.
Numbers 21, 22, 23, etc. are formed by using the following pattern: for example 21 can be formed by using 20 + 1. 21 = kakskümmend üks, 22 = kakskümmend kaks etc.
Note that when a number precedes a noun, the latter is in singular partitive case (and not plural nominative). For example:
Mul on seitse valget kassi (I have seven white cats).

Grammar Tips:
The Estonian numbers from 1 to 10 are unique and therefore need to be memorized individually. Numbers from 11 to 19 take a pattern: they are formed by using the numbers 1-9 +teist: 11 = üksteist, 15 = viisteist. Estonian Ordinal numbers tell the order of things in a set: first, second, third, etc. Ordinal numbers do not show quantity. They only show rank or position.
