All nouns, adjectives and pronouns have their own grammatical gender (masculine, feminine and neutral). There are 4-6 affix subgroups in each gender, which affect casing and number. However, a feminine word can be formed from a masculine in Czech, especially for roles and professions, simply by adding (-ka) or changing the masculine affix –k into -ce . Example:
učitel/učitelka (teacher), herec/herečka (actor/actress), zdravotník/zdravotnice (nurse)
