Czech Adverbs

Learning the Czech Adverbs displayed below is vital to the language. Czech adverbs are part of speech. Generally they're words that modify any part of language other than a noun. Adverbs can modify verbs, adjectives (including numbers), clauses, sentences and other adverbs.

Grammar Tips:

In English adverbs are usually formed by adding (-ly) to adjectives. In Czech, similarly, most adverbs are formed from adjectives, simply by changing the adjective affix -ý/-í into -e/-ě/-o/-u. Examples:

Pomalý (slow) becomes pomalu (slowly)

Dokonalý (perfect) becomes dokonale (perfectly)

Hlavní (main) becomes hlavně (mainly)

However that’s not always the case. Some words are adverbs by nature. For example:

Teď/nyní (now), opravdu (really), and brzy (soon) are all Czech adverbs.
